Purple Coffee

Welcome to Burgaw, NC ya'll. Never heard of it? Well chances are you've seen it dozens of times. How? This small town (about 30 minutes away from Wilmington, NC) has been used in countless television shows and movies. Fan of the CBS mega hit "Under the Dome"? Burgaw is the real Chester's Mill (notice the water tower behind my grandfather, its the same one from the intro to UTD). Seen the previews for the new Melissa McCarthy movie "Tammy"? Yep, that was here too! Here's a recent article about all the tv/movie productions that have been shot right here in this little town. So how did I find myself here, well it's the home town of my mom, and my grandparents live about one block away from downtown, so we have been regulars of Burgaw, well, forever!
Whenever we are in Burgaw, our first stop is always Brown Dog Coffee.  Donna and Barry Klingel are the owners of this jewel of a coffee shop. From across town somedays you can smell the fresh aroma of roasting coffee beans, that's because Mr. Barry (one of Tucker's dear friends, he has no idea they aren't the same exact age) roasts his coffee beans in house. However, clearly Tucker is not a brown coffee drinker just yet, he much prefers "purple coffee". Purple coffee is a super healthy blueberry smoothie (called a Blueberry Goddess to everyone else) but since he was about 1 1/2 he has proudly ordered his purple coffee, so the name stuck. Brown Dog Coffee shop also offers tons of locally made tastey treats, lots of which are gluten free and organic. So if you're exhausted and starving on the road to the beach this summer, try stopping at exit 398 off I-40 and head to Brown Dog Coffee because, where there's a meal, there's a way!
