Mess-less Caramel Apples

Vanilla Salted Caramel Sauce (adapted from Sallys Baking Addiction
  • 1 cup raw sugar
  • 6 tablespoons butter (cut into 6 tablespoons)
  • 2/3 cup cream
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
Directions:

Measure and prepare all ingredients. During the cooking process you will need access to all your ingredients quickly (otherwise you may burn your caramel).
In a sauce pan stir sugar over medium heat.
Stir sugar with a silicone spatula. As sugar begins to melt, it will form clumps.
Stir over medium heat until completely melted.
Once sugar has melted, stir in butter. Stir until butter has melted.

Note: It will bubble, and it will be ok.
Slowly stir in cream. Again it will bubble, but that is normal. Mix completely.
Stir in vanilla.
Mix in sea salt. Simmer for about 1 minute until caramel is well combined.
Pour into a glass storage jar (I love to reuse Trader Joe's coconut oil jars) allow to cool at room temperature. Store in the refridgerater for up to 2 weeks.
Dip cut honey crisp apples in warm caramel or drizzle over top.

When I Dip, You Dip, We Dip
(in caramel)

This is unapologetically delicious. This is the caramel that your grandmother would have made. Is it low calorie, umm no. Does it have loads of preservatives and unreadable additives, nope! It's just pure, thick, creamy, sticky caramel and it is awesome. One of my favorite fruit treats ever is caramel apples, but finding a delicious caramel apple can be hard to do. Until now that is. All the classic caramel apple flavor without actually being an apple on a stick. Best apples for this treat? Honey Crisps, hands down! They are sweet and tart and juicy, the perfect companion for warm gooey caramel. Love caramel apples, but hate the mess? Where there's a meal, there's a way!
