A Review of Monk Fruit in the Raw
by Keleigh May on November 12th, 2014

As I mentioned yesterday this past weekend I went to the Mom's Meet WOW Summit in Orlando. Moms Meet is a group created by Kiwi Magazine whose mission is to unite eco-minded parents.  Their online community, Mom's Meet, empowers moms to connect, learn and share their thoughts on raising healthy families and living green. Mom's Meet also offers exciting opportunities for moms and their friends to try and review natural, organic and eco-products and services, and share their honest feedback through the Mom Ambassador and Mom's Meet Blogger programs. I am lucky enough to be both a Mom Ambassador and a Mom's Meet Blogger. Want to join this community? Sign up today (like do it now then finish reading my blog....it's ok I'll wait).
Monk Fruit In The Raw is a product line by In The Raw, a family-owned business that was established in 1956.  Tasked with finding a less-processed sugar for a health-conscious customer base, founder Marvin Eisenstadt, created Sugar In The Raw, which has grown into several product lines that can be found in most coffee houses across America.  Monk Fruit In The Raw is the latest addition to the growing family of zero-calorie sweeteners.  It is made from real monk fruit, a vine-ripened fruit native to Asia.  The sweet and delicious extract from monk fruit is blended with other sweeteners to create the perfect balance of sweet.  Monk Fruit In The Raw is naturally vegan, kosher, and gluten-free, and does not contain any added table sugar, sugar alcohols, or molasses.

Making Munchies With Monk Fruit

To taste test this new sweetener, I made 3 different products. First Monk Fruit in the Raw's Best Chewy Brownies (both with and without walnuts). Side note: I asked Tucker if he wanted a brownie with nuts, he asked "What are nuts?" I said, "You know, almond, walnuts, pecans." He chimmed in, "Doughnuts?" HAHA I wish. I wanted something that was baked as it is recommeded to use 1/2 monk fruit and 1/2 sugar.  Secondly we had Wa"Lolly"dorf Salad because there is no heating of the monk fruit, just sprinkled on the fruit and yogurt. And lastly I made Russian Tea because one of the main utilities of this product is as a coffee or tea sweetener.
I gathered my Mommy friends and we all met at a local park. But I had a HUGE problem. I don't have a thermos large enough to transport all the Russian Tea! So, I sent my fantastic husband, Joe, to Starbucks to see if we could buy one of their large cardboard coffee carriers. And guess, what? They gave one to him, FREE! So I dolled it up a bit with Kiwi, Mom's Meet and Monk Fruit in the Raw Logos. Hosting a holiday party this season but don't have a coffee urn? Just visit Starbucks!
Of course the kiddos flocked to the brownies. Not one complaint about the dark chocolate or 1/2 sugar. Plates were cleaned, bellies were filled, no complaining was heard.

See what they thought!
