My 5 Favorite Things From Expo East

True Made Foods Vegetable Ketchup

I love ketchup, but surprise, am very picky with which types I like. When I sampled this ketchup I was in love. It tasted better than my favorite brand of Ketchup (you know, rhymes with "Minez"). When Abraham Kamarck "Abe" co-founder of True Made Foods told me to look at the ingredients, I was FLOORED! A delicious ketchup, made of vegetables, that this picky eater loved?! YES!! Out of everything I tried at Expo East, this was my #1 favorite.  So what's the story behind this brand, why hide vegetables in ketchup? Turns out co-founder Kevin Powell is a fellow picky eater! Kevin's wife Abbey came up with the Ketchup recipe as a way to get Kevin to eat his vegetables- from picky eaters everywhere, Thank You Abbey! Since launching the company in 2014, they have added True BBQ Sauce, and Veracha Hot Sauce to their lineup. You can purchase True Made Food Products from their website, or from Amazon.
Go ahead and order some now....seriously I'll wait here.

Paleo Scavenger

There were lots of granola and granola bar companies...LOTS. All were tasty in their own way, but one really stood out to me, both in taste and in originality- Paleo Scavenger. As I mentioned in my Expo East Trends post, Paleo is definitely not just for cavemen anymore. Brittany Chibe, Paleo Scavenger Founder, makes granola with no grains, dairy, soy, artificial flavors or refined sugars. So what's in it? Almonds, walnuts, coconut, honey, pecans, vanilla and dried fruit such as cherries and blueberries. Best part? It tastes great (paleo or not)! You can purchase Paleo Scavenger from their website

Sometimes my breath is rank. My mother and sister are the 2 people who point this out to me most often (Joe keeps his thoughts to himself). When we saw the EATWHATEVER booth at the expo, my mother quickly informed me that I needed to try this. I am not a big fan of mints or gum, so something that could tackle bad breath from the inside out intrigued me. I have never seen anything like this, a 2 stepped approach to bad breath. It really worked! According to EATWHATEVER's website, "When swallowed, the oil filled gel cap dissolves in your stomach making your tummy calm and happy whilst also providing fresh breath," while the breath mint gives you immediate bad breath relief.  You can purchase EATWHATEVER on their website and on Amazon

Ice Cream is arguably my favorite food on earth. Needless to say, I tried each and every ice cream at Expo East. Batch was my hands down favorite. In my humble ice cream connoisseur opinion, an ice cream brand can be judged on how they make a vanilla bean ice cream. It's the simplest of the flavors, yet surprisingly hard to master. Batch nailed it! With only 5 ingredients (milk, cream, eggs, cane sugar and vanilla beans) it's ice cream in it's purest-most delicious form. Batch comes in 10 flavors, Vanilla Bean, Caramelized Banana and Walnuts, Dark Chocolate Mexican Chile and Roasted Almonds, Brown Sugar Bourbon and Pecan, Cinnamon and Chocolate Bits, Salted Caramel, Ginger, Mocha Chip, Green Tea and Chocolate. Right now Batch is only sold in and around the Boston, MA area, but I am sincerely hoping they will be widely available soon!

Aroma-One Essential Herbs and Spices

Aroma-One Essential Herbs and Spices puts all the flavor and goodness of fresh picked herbs and spices into an easy to squeeze tube. No chemicals, no artificial preservatives and no need to refrigerate, making them the perfect companion to the busy home cook. Aroma-One simply takes the freshest herbs and spices grown in France (where the company is based) gives them a good chop, adds a few drops of oil, and a dash of mediterranean lemon juice, then gently pasteurizes them for taste and a long shelf life. Aroma-One Herbs and Spices comes in 11 different varieties: Umami (my favorite-your burgers will thank you for this one), Provence Herbs, Ginger, Dill, Lemon Grass, Oregano, Shallot, Chilli, Garlic, Basil and Cilantro. Aroma-One is brand new to the US (the French know their herbs and spices) but I suspect that these squeezy herb tubes will be widely available soon! Until then, dream of Umami paste dancing on your hamburgers.

There you have it, my Top 5!!

Whether you are a picky eater looking for a way to eat your vegetables, a follower of the paleo diet looking for a truly tasty granola to satisfy your sweet tooth, a fellow sufferer of the occasional "stanky breath" and in need of a better solution to breath mints, an ice cream aficionado searching for the purest most delicious vanilla bean ice cream, or a busy home cook looking for a way to get all the flavor from fresh herbs and spices with none of the work, thanks to these incredible companies, where there's a meal, there's a way!
